Privacy and confidentiality are central to good practice in psychotherapy and counselling and any information you share with me via this website, email, telephone, assessment forms, or face-to-face will be kept securely and not shared with anyone unless required to do so by law.
Electronic methods of communication are, of course, not entirely secure and can be ‘hacked’ and therefore you should take precautions to protect your privacy if you choose to communicate via email, web forms, or SMS by, for example, limiting sensitive information or communicating it in a way that is more secure.
As with all psychotherapy or counselling work, occasionally some anonymised details about you may be discussed under strict privacy and confidentiality rules for the purposes of clinical supervision. Clinical supervision is help that I may seek from a designated supervisor or peer supervision group for the sole purpose of helping me provide you with the best quality of care. All names, locations, dates of birth, and any other details that would allow you to be identified are always kept anonymous for the purposes of clinical supervision and are never revealed.
As with all psychotherapy or counselling work, it is normal practice for practitioners to make notes about any assessment and therapeutic process after each session for the purposes of recall and ongoing analysis and problem formulation. All of which serve the overarching intention of providing you with effective and respectful support that protects your privacy and dignity as a person. Such assessment and session notes are available for you to see in person by appointment (subject to a fee for any collation, and the appointment time) at any time and are kept private and confidential on a password-protected computer.
Your data will not be shared with anyone else without your expressed consent or unless ordered by a court of law. All data concerning your involvement with me is kept securely for at least 7 years after the date of the last contact, and sometimes indefinitely depending upon the sensitivity or implications of the information.
